SB195 Moving in Delaware General Assembly

The Delaware House Education Committee voted to advance SB195 to the full House yesterday, January 26, 2022. This is after the Delaware State Senate voted last week 14 Yes / 7 No to enact a new Media Literacy Standard for K-12 schools. It is on to the full House soon.

SB195 was introduced to create new Media Literacy Standards for public and charter schools in Delaware. The framework for these media literacy standards will be guided by educators, including school librarians, and other stakeholders including the Delaware State Librarian. The Delaware standards will be integrated across the curriculum in all schools and will improve learning outcomes for all students.

As a part of the Pass SB 195 coalition, the Delaware Library Association is invested in seeing school librarians and the Delaware Division of Libraries as active partners in developing and implementing standards-aligned media literacy curricula. As the bill moves to the full House, EveryLibrary will continue to support DLA's campaign to pass SB195.

We truly appreciate Senator Sarah McBride for sponsoring the bill and including school librarians in it. If you were part of the campaign in the Senate, please take a moment and send a fresh email to your state Representative. If you did not have an opportunity to be a part of the campaign yet, now is the time. SB195 moves to the House Education Committee soon. Please be a part of helping it create these new Media Literacy Standards for all Delawareans.
