Don't Fire the Librarian at Franklin County Technical School

Sign this petition today to ask the school board to rescind these firings and go back to the budget to find a way to balance the books

281 signatures
Goal: 250 Signatures

For the first time in more than a decade, Franklin County Technical School plans to cut staff as part of the fiscal year 2027 budget, citing high health insurance costs and limited state aid.

The cuts include a librarian, a carpentry instructor, two paraprofessionals, a public relations specialist, and a part-time math instructor. Additionally, an English teacher set to retire will not be replaced as part of these reductions.

We are asking residents, parents, and educational stakeholders to sign this petition today, urging the school board to rescind these firings and return to the budget to balance the books.

You can also attend the meeting and speak up:

Date: March 11, 2026
Location: Franklin County Technical School Library Conference Room 82 Industrial Blvd. Turners Falls, MA 01376
Time: 7:30pm

Will you sign?

To the Franklin Tech School Committee:

We, the undersigned, ask that you rescind the decision to lay off staff members, including the only school librarian, and reexamine the budget to explore other solutions to the "perfect storm" of cost overruns and cuts facing the school. As our students know, the school librarian position matters to the instructional and community life of our school. We know hard choices must be made, but balancing the budget this way will effectively close the school library and cut our students off from that core educational support system.

Please reconsider your decision and keep this position in place.
