EveryLibrary stands with the Wisconsin library, education, and union community in urging voters to reject the proposed state Constitutional Amendment on April 3rd, 2018 and Vote No to retain the office of State Treasurer.
Take the pledge today to Vote No and retain the Wisconsin State Treasurer as a statewide office.
We are taking this stand and sharing our call-to-action today because the office of the State Treasurer is one of three Constitutional Officers charged with ensuring that Common School Fund - the only dedicated source of funding for school library programs, collections, services, and staffing in the state - are spent according to the law and with the best interest of Wisconsin’s students in mind. Eliminating the office of the State Treasurer would mean many things about the fiscal integrity of the state, but most importantly to us it would mean that an unelected political appointee would now administer funding for school library programs.
Your contributions allow us to continue fighting for school libraries across the country.
The Common School Fund is unique to Wisconsin and is in the state Constitution itself. For over 170 years, the Common School Fund has supported school library programs in the state. Take the pledge to Vote No on “Amendment 1” and ensure that school library programs will be around for another 170 years for all Wisconsin’s kids. Wisconsin needs strong, stable school libraries to help students succeed. Putting the check book into the hands of a political appointee is a bad idea.
We are not alone in asking you to Vote No on April 3rd to retain the Wisconsin State Treasurer. EveryLibrary is proud to be a part of the Save Our Fiscal Watchdog group, a wide-ranging coalition of organizations in state and around the country that care about the fiscal impact of making Wisconsin the ONLY state without a treasurer. Please take the pledge to Vote No and head off this crisis of good government and a slide toward bad school libraries today.
