SEND AN EMAIL: Veto HB29, "Sensitive Materials Amendments"
No country has ever increased freedom and liberty by purging books and arresting librarians
Utah legislators have passed a new law (HB29, Sensitive Materials Amendments) by claiming librarians are distributing porn and they want librarians to be rounded up and sent to jail for having books like Pulitzer Prize winning author Toni Morrison’s book, “The Bluest Eye”, Judy Blume’s, “Forever”, and Sherman Alexie’s “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” on high school library shelves.
If they start throwing librarians in jail for doing their jobs, who do they come for next?
If the Governor signs HB29 into law, it will require ALL schools to purge books like these from their shelves if a handful of school districts anywhere in the state decide to ban the book. The bill also introduces more vague language that puts librarians, teachers, and school board members in legal jeopardy for having classic works of literature on high school library shelves.
Tell Governor Cox to VETO this bill, and to stop threatening librarians with criminal charges..
