On April 27th the school board and Superintendent Peiffer announced they were going to furlough one middle school and two elementary librarians from the Greensburg Salem School District. This comes at a time when critical thinking is more important than ever.

The link between strong school library programs and student achievement is well documented. Over the past 20 years, numerous studies have shown that elementary schools with at least one full-time certified teacher-librarian performed better on state tests. One study, "Pennsylvania School Libraries Pay Off: Investments in Student Achievement and Academic Standards", revealed that students with full-time librarians in their schools are almost three times as likely to have “advanced” writing scores, compared to those students without full-time librarians. The quality of our school matters, not only for property value, but for our children and the future students of our community. With school librarians in their schools, the children of Greensburg Salem are bright and capable of great things.
Join us in sending a message to the school board and Superintendent Peiffer that school librarians are essential to our students' success!
