PSLA Social Media Storm for School Librarians

PSLA Social Media Storm for School Librarians

We are facing a crisis in Pennsylvania School Libraries! Join the Social Media Storm on June 22nd to tell school boards across PA to retain their school librarians.

Right now, school boards across Pennsylvania are voting to eliminate school library programs and librarians in next year’s budgets. Now, more than ever, it’s critical to amplify and define our roles in effective school reopening plans whether online or in-person. All students deserve equitable school library opportunities. This message must reach all stakeholders before short-sighted cuts lead to long-term educational inequities.

#SaveSchoolLibrarians: A Social Media Storm on June 22

Step up and lead on behalf of all students! The PSLA Advocacy Committee has created sharable “card” messages to be used in social media posts. The “cards” succinctly convey that all K-12 students benefit from an effective school library program and a certified school librarian. Card images are located in this Flickr album. You can use as well as blank cards for customized visuals. Join us in sharing a clear call-to-action with these "Click to Tweet" messages, below.

  • School librarians in PA are equity warriors, ensuring that all students have access to high-quality content and learning experiences.  Sign the "Open Letter to School Boards" and ask to retain their school librarians. #SaveSchoolLibrarians

  • The school librarian is one of the few educators who moves with students through every grade level in a building as each one develops into a reader, an explorer, a thinker, a tinkerer, a collaborator, a digital citizen, and a learner. Sign the #SaveSchoolLibrarians "open letter" now. https://www.saveschoollibrarians.org/pa (Click to Tweet)

  • In a PA study, students in schools with full-time librarians were almost three times as likely to have advanced writing scores as students in schools without full-time librarians.
