Proposed budget cuts at the Pacific Grove Unified School District in California will lay off the school librarian, remove a teacher from the library, and close a safe place to learn!
Please send an email to demand that the PGUSD Board of Education keep the district's only certified Teacher Librarian and protect our children's academic standards and library access. The District faces a budget deficit and prioritizes competitive salaries for staff to attract quality educators. However, they are trying to fund this by cutting the library program, firing the librarian, and replacing the position with a part-time clerk. We cannot attract quality teachers to a district that devalues its own students' education. This demotion will force our current librarian to resign, leaving over 125 students each day without a credentialed instructor to curate materials, support teachers, teach critical thinking and digital safety, and have a safe area for students during instructional time and breaks.
Help stop these unwise and harmful cuts to essential staff positions. Make your voice heard for students, families, and quality education in Pacific Grove and send an email to the Board of Ed today.
