The Township of Union (NJ) Public Schools has proposed severe cuts to critical educational roles and programs that will drastically reduce the instructional time and resources available to our children. This includes cutting three elementary school librarian positions in the Elementary Schools and reducing instruction for Art, Computers, Library, Music, and Spanish classes by 50% overall.
We Need Your Help to Oppose These Cuts
The school library program and specialist classes are essential for developing our children's literacy, creativity, technical skills, and cultural awareness. They are vital for nurturing well-rounded, informed, and competent future citizens. If these cuts go through, we will see fewer specialists like librarians, art teachers, and music teachers shuttling between schools, diminishing the quality of education and the student support they can provide.
Please sign the petition to the superintendent, board president, and board vice president. We are asking people to sign now and then attend the next Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, May 14th at 7:00pm. Please plan to arrive by 6:30pm to register to speak.
EveryLibrary, the New Jersey Association of School Librarians (NJASL), and NJEA all stand with these educators in calling on the school board to retain them in the next school year. Please help spread the word about these unnecessary, unwise, and unhelpful cuts. Share this page with other concerned parents, educators, and community members. The more voices we have, the stronger our impact.
