Submit a letter to the editor supporting strong school libraries in your community

Local politicians take notice when people take the time to speak up about important community issues like school library funding.

That's why we need people like you to submit letters to the editors of your local papers to help us get the word out about the importance of school libraries. We made it easy with this tool!

Here are some prompts to help you get started:

  • How has a school library positively impacted your or your child’s education?

  • Why do you believe every student deserves access to a fully funded school library?

  • What would be lost if your school no longer had a licensed school librarian?

  • In what ways do school libraries support lifelong learning and literacy?
  • How have school librarians supported student success in research, reading, or critical thinking?

  • How does the presence of a certified school librarian improve student achievement and engagement?

  • Why is it essential for rural or underserved schools to retain strong library programs?

  • How has a librarian inspired a love of reading in your child or a student you know?

  • Why is it a mistake to assume that volunteers or public librarians can replace school librarians?

  • How would you urge local leaders or school boards to protect or restore school library positions?
