Campaign Completed!
We have a rare and important chance to help students in Washington state get the school library services they need, and for taxpayers to hold the legislature and Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction accountable on delivering their promises.
The Washington Library Association and EveryLibrary need your help today. Please contact your state senator to pass SB 6460, a critical bill for school libraries that will do two critical things: fix the funding formula to finally include accountability for school library spending, and require reporting and transparency by the OSPI about how they actually spend dedicated school library materials funds. Please help move these important bill today by contacting your state Senator using the email form on this page!

State law in Washington already allocates money for teacher-librarians in schools, but school boards, superintendents and principals shift certified school librarians out of their libraries frequently. This means that what the taxpayers are paying for isn’t happening in our schools. There is also a funding allocation in Washington state for school library programs that is supposed to be dedicated to per pupil collections, programs and services, but without transparency and reporting, taxpayers and parents don’t know if it is. SB 6460 would fix those basic problems. Help ensure that every student has the in-class research and curriculum support they need, and the outside-of-class independent learning and discovery opportunities we all wish for our kids by signing this email petition today!
Please take this action for students all across Washington State today. Legislative sponsors have told Washington Library Association that if they hear from enough voters, parents, and taxpayers around the state that there is a good chance to fix these problems. But only if enough people speak up about good school libraries and transparent government spending. Please email your Senator about SB 6460, and share this call-to-action with your neighbors, family, and school community.
