In counties across Florida, a small but vocal group of activists, with the assistance of dark money groups, seek to squash the 1st amendment by censoring school libraries and classrooms.

These “concerned citizens" are specifically targeting books by LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC authors and demanding that they are removed from the libraries to ensure that you can’t select those books for your own children.
Additionally, the Florida Republican-controlled state legislature has just codified that censorship into law and now regulates the books available to you from school libraries.
These efforts intentionally undermine public education and erase the marginalized voices and perspectives of people that would connect with the diverse student body in Florida public schools.

Parents have the right to screen what their own children read, but it stops there. No one parent or government entity should be able to prevent all students from accessing information (protected speech) at the library.
These new laws, effective on July 1, will further tie the hands of local school boards and the educators that work on the frontlines.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that all children have the right to read books regardless of their point of view. That’s a guarantee of the First Amendment. Now, as censorship flares up in our schools, it’s our obligation to safeguard that freedom for all the students in our community.
Please sign this petition to let our Governor, Attorney General and the FL Department of Education know that you stand against censorship.
