SEND AN EMAIL: Ask Gov Newsom not to defund COMPASS for K-12 Libraries

Every student in California deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. That's why access to COMPASS is so important.

In the age of AI, it is essential for students to have direct access to varied and valid information sources.  To build AI literacy, they first need information literacy, which includes an understanding of all types of information sources and how to use them.

COMPASS is a great equalizer giving every student in California (public, charter, and private) access to database and online encyclopedias so they can all have hands on experience learning to use all kinds of tools to access information.

AI filters and interprets information.  It is critical for students to access information directly.

Just as we would find it unacceptable not to have direct access to a calculator or a book for English class, students need access to these tools to develop the multiple literacies needed to be active participants in society in the 21st century.

Please urge all library supporters to ask the governor not to end funding to COMPASS for California students.
