Removing certified School librarians is a disservice to students and faculty. If one under the auspices of cost savings, it ignores the return on investment ratio provided by their service to their schools. There are significant numbers of studies that show school librarians increase student outcomes, in terms of not only grades and standardized test achievement, but also socio-emotionally. You don’t have to take my word for it – here’s a collection of them: https://sites.google.com/view/drstevet/sl-support-resources?authuser=0

Certified school librarians boost student achievement, support 21st century fluencies, and support instructional priorities in their practice. Please reconsider!

Now more than ever, librarians support school staff and students with reading advocacy, information technology instruction and information management . No school can claim to be providing equitable opportunities to students that does not include a robust library and information technology program.
Cutting school library positions is a “penny-wise pound foolish” decision in an information age where the digital divide only widens when we deny students access to information resources and instruction that a library provides.
